WHITENER TAKES 50 LAP UNITED DIRT LATE MODEL CHALLENGE


 

Putnam County Speedway hosted the First Annual Late Model Challenge Saturday Night before an outstanding crowd of spectators with 22 cars taking the green flag. Ivedent Lloyd jumped to the top spot for several laps but could not hold off Mark Whitener from taking the point. Whitener led the remaining laps of the 50 lap feature for the win and top money. Jason Fitzgerald and Brandon Dewitt battled for the third spot. Dewitt had to pit on lap 22 with mechanical failure and Fitzgerald went to the stripe for third behind Lloyd who took second.  J. O. Nobles, Kyle Bronson, Christian Auspburger, Carter Stokes, Travis Rhoden, Jason Burke and Ken Monahan rounded out the top 10. Auspburger was fast qualifier with an 18.202.

The 3 heat winners were Brandon Dewitt, Mark Whitener and Jason Fitzgerald.

 

Paul Shead went flag to flag to win the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Shead was the pole sittier with Mitchell Wise Sr. outside pole. At the green Shead took the top spot and never looked back.  Mike Haney challenged Shead for the position  but lost it on lap 3 to Steve Shead.  Haney dropped out of the race on lap 11.  Steve went on to finish second followed by Ryan Davis, Kevin Mills and Wise. Rounding out the top 10 were Lisa O’Connor, Davy Cline, Cecil Long, John Westbrooke and Derek Hullett Sr.           

Heat winners were Mike Haney and Kevin Mills.

 

Robert Hicks went wire to wire to take the Thunder Stock 15 lap feature.  This was Hicks first race of the 2013 season. John Thorpe tried every advantage for the lead but to no avail and had to settle for second. Daniel Keene made his way thought The field from the 11th starting position to take third. Rounding out the top 10 were, Steve Cox, James Shaw, Robert Schrunk,Dalton Strehle, Erick Arminio, Jeff Baer and Richard Collins.

Heats went to John Thorpe and Dalton Strehle

 

Jarrid Bennett led the field to the checkered flag to take the Hobby Stock win.  Buddy Rohn followed Bennet every lap but had to settle for second at the stripe. David Dowling finished third but was disqualified at tech when his car was found illegal giving the position to Lawrence Isgette.  Car 113 took fourth place followed by Josh Hughes and Chris Doan. 

Dowling was the heat winner.

 

Buddy Pope took the win in the 10 lap Mini Stock feature.  Jim Nichols followed Pope every lap but did not go under the checkered flag for the last lap. Kameron McGuley was a lap car but he crossed the flag giving him the second position and Nichols had to settle for third. 

Buddy Hope was also the Heat winner.

They will be joined by historian Jon Lundberg and veteran “Berserko Bob” Doerrer during Charlotte Motor Speedway’s huge Auto Fair on Saturday, April 6.  The event will take place in the Charlotte Motor Speedway Media Center.
